Waiting at the Bottom of the Slide

AJ is all about doing things by herself these days. She painted her toes the other day. Aside from painting her feet and legs, she actually got some on her toe nails. And the bathroom wall. And the toilet. And the toilet paper.

Today she completely dressed herself. T shirt, sweat shirt, panties, pants, and shoes. She did everything great. Well... her sweat shirt was backwards and she put the t shirt on OVER it. And of course, her shoes were on the wrong feet. But even with those minor blunders, she was so proud of herself. I, too, was proud, but also a bit sad that she's growing up so fast. But then, on one of those mornings when we're having trouble getting everyone together, I'll be thankful she can dress herself.

She's also taken to calling me "Mom" (as opposed to Momma or Mommy) when she's around older kids. She doesn't want to hold my hand, just walk beside me. At the park, she can climb all the way to the top of the rock wall and likes to go down the super-steep, fast slide.

Even in her independence, she still needs me every now and then. She still wants me to kiss her boo-boo and tell her good night. She still comes to lay with me early in the morning.

She still wants me at the bottom of the slide.

Flip Flops in February...

...it's a wonderful thing! I've worn my black, impossibly-comfortable Nike flip flops all week. I've ignored the fact that my feet have yet to recover from the harsh, dry winter with nary a soak in months. The dark polish from my last home pedicure had chipped off long ago. My longing for flip flop wearing freedom far out weighed my embarrassment of colorless toes. I finally found a few free moments today to fervently brush on Love My Nails "Love #571". The bright red hue immediately made my day better... and my feet more acceptable. As much as I love the current weather, I fear it won't last. I'm afraid the cold will take over at least once more before it's Springtime. I'll have to once again don socks and boots. My toes will have been polished in vain. Now that my toes have breathed fresh air, how can they go back?

It's been a long weekend...

...and it's not over yet.

Thursday I came down with some kind of horrid illness. Friday it was a little worse. Today, a fever was added. I finally broke down and took some Robitussin (nursing approved). That was a big deal because I am so not the self medicating type! Thankfully, through it all I have had a very supportive mother-in-law who entertained AJ at her house during the day and a husband who has waiting on me in the evenings. I'm pretty good when I'm sick. I'm not a big complainer and usually trudge on through whatever ails me. Today, however, I spent most of the day in bed. Which was nice. I'm trying not to let myself feel guilty about not doing anything around the house because I AM sick after all.

The terrible part of the whole thing is that I've barely been able to have my Little Belle by my side (so to speak). She's had to spend most of her day in the swing or co sleeper. Besides nursing and the brief 5 or so minutes she was high on my shoulder away from my face (that bonding was the highlight of my day!) she's been as far away from my germs as possible. I hate it. She's practically been attached to me for the last 3.5 months. And a lot of the times I'm literally wearing her. I'm as spoiled by her cuddling as she is by mine. I love when she's fussing and I pick her up and she falls right to sleep. She just needed Momma's touch.

On a positive note, AJ's had a ball this weekend! She's got to spend a lot of extra time with her Grandmomma, whom she adores!

Here's to a better tomorrow!
(Forgive the cliche...)

Another Snow Day!

After a full night of precipitation, we woke up to beautiful, fluffy snow.

Joseph even got to stay home! Joseph, AJ, and I went out to play. The snow was a little too soft for snowmen but it was still lots of fun!

BONUS: I took pictures this time!
